All the Bells – what happens when London 2012 fails to add subtitles

Curious to find out what all this bell ringing lark was about that takes place at percisly 8.12 am on Friday 27th July 2012 is about I watched the video of Martin Creed talking about this in ALL THE BELLS on you tube. As with ALL of the videos produced by London 2012 and Cultural Olympipad this was another one that WASNT SUBTITLED. Being deaf I wanted to know what Martin was saying so I used You Tube’s automatic captioning facility (the CC button)...

Cultural Olympiad: the art of subtitles, headphones, ringing ears and petitions

I tried to feel a part of the Cultural Olympiapad celebrations last night and came away realising – nope it isn’t going to happen for me. No subtitles from the BBC. The celebrated Simon Bolivar Orchestra was streamed live from Raploch in Stirling not only on BBC Four, but streamed live on iplayer and across the 22 cities with BBC Big Screens. My complaint to BBC about the offending tweets made by DJ Sara Cox

Dear BBC, Last night Sara Cox made a number of comments complaining about the screening of an English language film with added captions, asked for a discount and commented back to many Deaf people who complained at how offended they were that they were ‘gobshites’. Man can conquer air + space but BA can’t offer subtitled films

Man has conquered air.  Man has conquered space.  And one would think man would have conquered subtitles by now. Guest Blogger Caroline O’Neil writes: I’m going to the USA next month (June 2011).  When my family booked airline tickets I immediately contacted British Airways back in November 2010 (7 months ago) to enquire about subtitles on in-flight entertainment.
